10 INSTAGRAMMABLE PLACES IN ROME

There is no shortage of instagrammable places in Rome. Whether you only have a day or five days in the city, you’ll be sure to see a photo opportunity on every corner. Check out some of my favorite instagrammable locations in Rome below. Plus, I’ve made it easy to find these spots with tips and directions for each location. TREVI FOUNTAIN

Tips: It’s a no brainer that you’ll want a picture by one of Rome’s top destinations — the Trevi Fountain. My best advice for snapping the ultimate instagrammable shot at the Trevi Fountain is getting there early! You’ll find it so much less crowded in the morning hours and you’ll be able to get an undisrupted picture. If you’re looking for an even more exclusive tour of this gem, take a look at this tour that takes you under the fountain for an underground look.

Getting here: [Piazza di Trevi, 00187 Roma RM, Italy] The Trevi Fountain is in a prime location of Rome near many other attractions like the Pantheon. While there, be sure to get gelato at Melograno.

COURT ROOFTOP BAR

Tips: The Court is truly a photo haven in Rome. Most will skip this instagrammable spot since it’s not as well known as the others, but this is one you can’t miss. I recommend getting a reservation for drinks around sunset well in advance (they are known to sell out quickly) and taking a seat closest to the edge for an unbeatable view.

Getting here: [Via Labicana, 125, 00184 Roma RM, Italy] The Court is a bar located directly across from the Colosseum with a view of the gladiator arena and ruins. It’s an instagram worthy spot just waiting for you!

COLOSSEUM

Tips: It truly doesn’t matter what time of day you get a picture of the Colosseum because there are so many different angles and locations for you to snap a photo. I find taking pictures of the Colosseum at night to be extra special, though, as it’s all lit up.

Getting here: There are two locations I recommend snapping a picture of the Colosseum that aren’t as obvious and well known. The first is located at Via Nicola Salvi, 00184 Roma RM, Italy and the second location is along Piazza del Colosseo.

TERAZZA BORROMINI

Tips: I found Terazza Borroomini, a rooftop restaurant, on my third trip to Rome and instantly fell in love with the view. Make reservations here for drinks before dinner and enjoy a view of Rome that rivals all others with a glass of vino in hand.

Getting here: [Via di Santa Maria dell’Anima, 30, 00186 Roma RM, Italy] I actually found getting to Terazza Borromini a bit harder to find. You’ll want to head to the Eitch Borromini Hotel where you’ll be checked in for your reservation and take the elevators up to the rooftop from there.

ALTAR OF THE FATHERLAND

Tips: Altar of the Fatherland is often overlooked as having one of the best viewpoints of Rome, but it shouldn’t be missed on your hunt for the most instagrammable places in Rome. Plus, visiting the Altar of the Fatherland is completely free.

Getting here: [Piazza Venezia, 00186 Roma RM, Italy] Located smack dab in the middle of Rome lies the Altar of the Fatherland. Most will stop just outside to snap a picture because the structure itself is beautiful, but you want to head to the top of the stairs on the left hand side of the building for the most gorgeous view of the entire city of Rome.

SPANISH STEPS

Tips: The Spanish Steps are a no brainer on the list of instagrammable places in Rome. However, similar to the Trevi Fountain, this spot quickly gets filled up with tourists and pedestrians all wanting to get a picture of the steps. So, I recommend getting there early because there is nothing worse than snapping a picture of something as beautiful as the Spanish Steps with hundreds of others in the background.

Getting here: [Piazza di Spagna, 00187 Roma RM, Italy] The iconic Baroque stairway is located right by Piazza di Spagna known for some of the best shopping in not only Rome but the world. After capturing the perfect picture of the stairs, be sure to roam and shop the streets of Via dei Condotti.

piazza novana

Tips: Piazza Novana is one of the lesser visited plaza’s in Rome but it also is one of the most beautiful which is why it makes the list of instagrammable places in Rome. Early in the morning and later in the evening is when you’ll be able to get some great pictures of this spot.

Getting here: [Piazza Navona, 00186 Roma RM, Italy] Piazza Novana is great to see in the same day as the Pantheon since they are in close proximity of each other. You’ll also find one of my favorite restaurants in Rome near Piazza Novana that you can’t miss, Cul De Sac.

PANTHEON

Tips: I think the best time to see the Pantheon is at night! This area of Rome just comes to life in a different way at nighttime and it’s really something special to witness. Although it is a more touristy spot, it’s so fun to take in a glass of wine at the nearby bars and enjoy the street performers, musicians and people watching that this area displays.

Getting here: [Piazza della Rotonda, 00186 Roma RM, Italy] As I mentioned above, you’ll find the Pantheon in close proximity to Piazza Novana but also within walking distance to the Trevi Fountain, which is also a sight to see at night time.

TRASTEVERE NEIGHBORHOOD

Tips: An absolute gem that not many people get to experience while in Rome is the Trastevere neighborhood. It’s a bit away from the city center of Rome and there aren’t as many iconic landmarks but the streets, the restaurants and the cafes here are to die for. You’ll find fewer tourists in this location making it even easier to snap a picture. You can even take a food and walking tour of the neighborhood to find more hidden gems.

Getting here: [Trastevere] Cross over the Tiber River and you’ll find an abundance of instagrammable places waiting for you in Tastevere. I recommend starting near Chiesa Sant’Agata in Trastevere and then heading along Via della Lungaretta. And, be sure to stop for an espresso at Roscioli on Via de Giubbonari.

PIAZZA SAN PIETRO

Tips: Rounding out the top 10 instagrammable places in Rome is another piazza, Piazza San Pietro. What makes this such a picture worthy spot is what the plaza is surrounded by — the Vatican. You’ll need your passport to enter the Vatican and you should absolutely purchase tickets in advance to go inside the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s Basilica. I also highly recommend a tour guide when viewing the Vatican as it is so large and extremely difficult to see it all on your own without some guided direction.

Getting here: [Piazza San Pietro, 00120 Città del Vaticano, Vatican City] Technically, this location is not Rome, but rather a different country — the Vatican. As I mentioned prior, you’ll want to visit this spot with your passport and advance tickets if you plan on visiting all that the area has to offer.

I hope this instagrammers guide to Rome helps you capture the beautiful city in the best way. I know there are a ton of other locations that can make this list so if you have a hidden gem you want to share or and questions, feel free to reach out on Instagram!
